During your stay in the country, you'll notice Uruguayan families live simple, orderly, and uncluttered lives. As in most Latin American countries, family ties are strong and parents tend to have close-knit relationships. Apart from learning about and experiencing the Uruguayan family life you'll also have the chance to enjoy the country's delicious cuisine.

It is also globally acknowledged that the education in Uruguay is of high quality, with excellent schools and well trained teachers.
Rest assured that attending school is just one of the many things that you may do during your stay in Uruguay, as you will have many opportunities to have fun and participate in a wide variety of exciting activities with your friends, such as fútbol (soccer), volleyball, basketball, and swimming. Other types of entertainment include movies or theatres, attending fascinating festivals, and even taking a relaxing trip to the beach!

Language

Spanish. Previous language study is not required. Language abilities will be supported by a YFU Spanish course after students arrive.

Throughout Uruguay, in or near a city.

March to November, with summer vacation from December through February.

Trips

YFU Uruguay will offer rich opportunities for you to experience South America through optional cultural activities (available an an additional cost).  These options could include a six-day trip to Iguaçu Falls, a three-day trip to Calonia and Buenos Aires, a trip to Salto, or various optional cultural trips to cities throughout Uruguay.

Pastimes

Fishing, football, beach and water activities, surfing.
